NBGSARA Newsletter

Newsletter Vol 1 No 1 May 2009

In order to provide a little more communication on what is going on provincially with SAR, your executive has prepared a short newsletter that might be useful within your teams. We hope to be able to do this on a fairly regular basis. Hopefully, this type of publication can improve communications between SAR volunteers and make our provincial meetings less of information and one of more decision-making. Comments are more than welcome, and if you have ideas your would like to publishthrough this tools, please forward them at your convenience.

Unfortunately, we aren’t yet in a position to translate all the material, but I see no reason why articles contributed in French couldn’t be published that way.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Caledonia Search

On February 21st, 2009, the Caledonia RCMP District 11 received a complaint of a 15 year old lost in the woods. He was out for a snowshoe walk with his dog and could not make his way back home and unable to call anyone. With the assistance of the Tri-County Search and Rescue, RCMP Police Dog and helicopters from the RCMP and JRCC from Greenwood Nova Scotia, the incident commander was pleased to report that the very cold teenager was found. The Greenwood helicopter airlifted the teenager to safety. The teen was then taken to the Moncton Hospital where he was treated for hypothermia and then released.

The Searcher of the Year award is presented annually to the member having made an exceptional contribution to the team's operational performance in the field during searches. Dawn was recognized for her strong contribution to the overhead team during actual search operations during the year.

Presentation to J LaBelle

On behalf of the Board of Directors and Headquarters Staff of the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR), we thank Joseph LaBelle for the dedication he has shown to our educational and certification programs. He was awarded this jacket for his tireless efforts of teaching more than 100 students the Managing the Lost Person Incident class. Its people like Joseph that further the nation in search and rescue education. We thank him for all that he does for SAR and NASAR.
